How to Clean the Dishwasher

May 5, 2023

It’s easy to forget about cleaning the dishwasher, seeing as it constantly has hot, soapy water running through it. However, neglecting to clean it may result in dirty dishes even after running a cycle. Spring is our favorite time of year to clean, so we’re here to share some expert-tips on cleaning the dishwasher.

What you’ll need:

  1. Old toothbrush

  2. Paper towels

  3. Vinegar

  4. Baking soda

Instructions:

  1. Open the dishwasher and pull out the filter at the bottom. Remove any gunk caught inside of it, and use an old toothbrush to scrub out any remaining particles, then rinse it and place it back in.

  2. Fill a bowl or glass with one cup of vinegar, and place it on the top rack of the dishwasher.

  3. Run the dishwasher on a regular cycle - the vinegar will clean the interior, so there’s no need to add any detergent. You can skip the drying cycle.

  4. Once the cycle is finished, sprinkle one cup of baking soda on the bottom of the dishwasher.

  5. Run a hot water rinse cycle, and skip the drying cycle. *Warning: do not ever run the vinegar and baking soda in the same cycle. This will create a foamy mess.

  6. After the cycle is done, open the door to let the dishwasher air dry.

  7. Spray and wipe down the exterior and buttons with vinegar and paper towels.
